Font License

End User License Agreement

Updated 18th November 2024

License Overview

This license defines the rights and restrictions for using our fonts. Different license types provide specific permissions, outlined below.

The fonts provided here are the intellectual property of Jamie Clarke Type LTD. When you purchase a license, you’re not buying the font or owning it outright. Instead, you’re purchasing a license to use the font files in accordance with the terms below.

Please review these terms carefully to understand what is permitted and what is restricted. If anything is unclear or if you have questions about specific uses, contact us before purchasing. By completing a purchase, you confirm that you’ve read, understood, and agree to these terms and conditions. If you don’t agree, do not proceed to purchase, download, copy, or use the font in any way.

Intellectual Property Rights

You acknowledge that Jamie Clarke Type LTD owns all intellectual property rights, including but not limited to copyright in the fonts and any trademarks created or owned by us. For clarity, the purchase of a license does not transfer any intellectual property rights to you.

License Restrictions

You cannot:

  • Sell, transfer, share, license, sub-license, rent, lend, commercialize, or give away your license or font files to any third party (including clients, design agencies, printers, or contractors using their own computers). However, you may temporarily provide the fonts to a third-party designer or agent working directly on your behalf for a specific project, provided they use the fonts exclusively for your work and delete all copies upon completing the project.
  • Use the fonts for any unlawful purpose or in an unlawful manner.
  • Make more than two backup copies of the font files. Backup copies must include all original documentation, copyright, trademark, and other proprietary notices.
  • Store or use the font files in a way that allows third-party access. If you become aware of any unauthorized access, you must notify us immediately.
  • Modify, adapt, translate, reverse engineer, or alter the fonts to create new or derivative fonts. This includes making changes like creating textured versions, adding glyphs, producing new weights, or applying visual effects such as rounding corners. However, these restrictions do not apply once the font has been converted to outlines in design software, as it is no longer part of the font software.
  • Copy or trace the fonts by any means, manual or automated, for the purpose of creating a new font or replicating the font design.
  • Use symbols, decorative elements (“Dingbats”), or individual letters from the font as standalone design elements in products, including items like logos, rubber stamps, stencils, or adhesive letters.
  • Embed the fonts in any format where the text is user-editable or can result in a customizable document, such as an editable PDF, app, e-publication, website, or custom invitation, greeting card, or portfolio.
  • Embed the fonts in a document format distributed to unlicensed end users unless the fonts are rasterized into a pixel-format image or converted into static vector outlines. Editable embedding (e.g., PDF, Word, PowerPoint) is only permitted for distribution to other licensed users.

If you would like to use the fonts for purposes beyond the scope of these licenses (e.g., embedding in editable documents, hardware, games, broadcasting or film titling, server-hosted access, or unrestricted corporate use), please contact us for custom licensing information at [email protected]

License Options and Usage

Each license applies to a specific use or format (e.g., desktop, web, app). If you need the font for multiple uses or formats, you’ll need to purchase separate licenses. The following permitted uses and restrictions apply based on each license type:

Desktop Font License

This license allows installation of the font on the number of workstations specified in your license. Desktop fonts may be used for print and digital materials, including books, magazines, advertisements, signage, logos, newsletters, and reports. Embedding in e-publications is allowed as long as the document is secure, view-only, and cannot be edited. Fonts can be stored on a local server for access by licensed users. Conversion to outlines is permitted, provided no new font files are created. If the number of workstations requiring the font files to be installed exceeds the licensed volume, you must upgrade your license.

Web Font License

This license allows you to self-host the web font files and style text on your website using CSS @font-face only. Each license is valid for a single primary domain, including subdomains and extensions (e.g., .com, .org, .co.uk). If your monthly unique visitors exceed the licensed volume, you must upgrade your license.

Web fonts are for website text only and cannot be used to create logos, documents, or other digital works where a Desktop or App license would apply. Web font files may not be hosted by external providers.

You may transfer this license to a new domain if it’s removed from the previous one. For additional domains, please purchase separate licenses.

App License

This license allows you to embed the font in a single mobile app across multiple operating systems (e.g., iOS and Android). The license is limited by monthly active users, but covers unlimited versions, platforms, sales, and upgrades for that app. All licenses are perpetual, meaning you pay once and can use the font indefinitely within the active user limit.

Only the app font files provided with this license may be used within your app, and alternate font formats are not permitted. This license is non-transferable between apps; if you need to embed the font in additional apps, please purchase separate licenses.

App fonts cannot be used to create logos, documents, or other works where a Desktop or Web font license would apply.

Trial Font License

Trial fonts contain a limited character set and are for evaluation purposes only. They must not be shared publicly, used commercially, or used for any purpose other than evaluating whether the font is suitable for use before purchasing a full license. If you wish to use any trial font beyond testing, please purchase the relevant license on our website.

Summary and Liabilities

We’ve kept this license as straightforward as possible. If you breach any part of this agreement or infringe our rights, we may terminate your license. If that happens, you agree to immediately stop using the fonts and delete all font files, including any copies held by others under the same license.

Regarding liability, by purchasing this license, you agree that Jamie Clarke Type LTD will not be responsible for any data loss, business interruption, or incidental damages. If you experience an issue with your font files, please contact us for support. You agree to indemnify and hold Jamie Clarke Type LTD, its employees, contractors, agents, and licensors harmless from any claims, damages, or costs (including legal fees) resulting from your use of the fonts, any breach of this agreement, or violation of applicable law or third-party rights.

Please note that Jamie Clarke Type LTD may update these terms, with changes posted on our website. These terms represent the entire agreement between you and Jamie Clarke Type LTD and are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable by a court, the remaining terms will continue in full effect.
