Licensing

What’s a font license?

When you buy my fonts, you’re actually purchasing a license to use them, rather than owning them outright. The fonts remain the intellectual property of Jamie Clarke Type Ltd, but the license gives you the freedom to use them as outlined in the terms.

Do you offer other licenses
than desktop, web or app?

Yes. I offer e.g. unlimited/enterprise licenses for companies as well as licenses for broadcasting use, digital ads or hardware. Please send an email to [email protected] to confidentially discuss the project and usage of the fonts.

Can I share my license with somebody else?

Only with third parties, working on your behalf, and using the font exclusively for your company (e.g. an advertising agency or printer). The fonts must only be used for the duration of the collaboration, with all copies deleted upon the project’s completion.

Can I sell or transfer my license to another person or business?

No. The person or business must purchase their own license.

Buying fonts

I’ve ordered the wrong license – what now?

No problem! Send an email to [email protected] with the font in question and the invoice.

Why are the font prices shown in US dollars?

USD is the most widely used currency for purchasing fonts. However, my payment system, Stripe, accepts a broad range of currencies, so you can pay in the one that works best for you.

Using my fonts

Can I use your fonts in logos?

Yes. To use the font in a logo, you simply need a desktop license. If your logotype needs refining, just let me know – I can perfect it, ready for its debut.

Can I use your fonts in e-books/e-pub?

Yes. To use the font in an e-book, you simply need a desktop license. Embedding in e-publications is only allowed as long as the document is secure, view-only, and cannot be edited.

Can I use your desktop fonts on the web?

No. Please purchase a specific web license.

Can I use your fonts in a third-party web font service?

Unfortunately not, due to third-party security issues.

Can I make changes to your font files or adapt them for my brand?

No. If you open my font files in an editor, you break our agreement. If you want to customise one of my fonts, you must contact me.

Using my fonts in Canva

Can I use your fonts in Canva?

Yes – but only if a few important conditions are met.

You must purchase a multi-user desktop license that covers the number of people in your Canva organisation (up to 10 users).

For example: a 5-user license is needed for a Canva organisation with 5 users. Once that’s in place, you’re welcome to upload the font files via Canva’s Brand Kit.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Canva font uploads are only available on Pro, Teams, Education, or Nonprofit plans
  • Fonts must be uploaded by an Admin and will then be available to everyone in your organisation
  • You must not share the fonts outside your Canva organisation – including installing them on team members’ computers – unless you’ve also licensed the fonts for desktop use for those people

Why the limit of 10 Canva users?

When you upload a font to Canva, it’s stored on their servers and shared with your whole team. That’s closer to a cloud or server license – so I’ve set a clear threshold to keep things simple and fair for freelancers and smaller businesses.

What if my Canva organisation has more than 10 users?

No problem – just get in touch and I’ll tailor a license that suits your setup.

Are any of your fonts already available in Canva?

Yes – my Brim Combined family and a couple of Rig Solid styles are directly embedded in Canva’s system (licensed to Canva). These don’t require a separate license to use.

Can I use my Adobe Fonts subscription to use your fonts in Canva?

No. Adobe Fonts can’t be downloaded, so they can’t be uploaded to Canva’s Brand Kit. And even if they could, Adobe’s license terms don’t cover use in third-party platforms like Canva.

Are there any restrictions on how I can use the fonts once they’re in Canva?

Yes – and it’s important to remember that uploading a font to Canva doesn’t override the original terms of your desktop license.

Once uploaded, the fonts can only be used within your Canva organisation, and only by users covered by your license. That means you must not share editable designs or templates with people outside your team unless your license specifically allows it.

For example:

  • Sharing a Canva template with a client who’s not part of your Canva organisation is not permitted
  • Creating templates for public use (like selling or distributing Canva templates) requires a separate license

If you plan to share editable designs beyond your organisation – or create templates for others to use – please get in touch and I’ll advise on the right license for your setup.

What font formats do you send?

Custom font licensing

Do you need a company-wide license or specific permissions for web, app, or broadcast use? Get in touch for a confidential chat, and I’ll tailor a custom license to fit your exact needs.

Enterprise licenses are among the most commonly requested, providing comprehensive coverage across your business. They offer flexibility and peace of mind as your company grows, ensuring full compliance and avoiding any risk of infringement.

License fees are typically calculated based on factors such as the number of font styles required (e.g., Regular, Bold, Italic) and the intended usage (e.g. web, broadcast, server).
