Annually the Folio Society chooses one illustrator/designer they've worked with during the year to design the cover of their prestigious diary, which is sent to customers and industry contacts. I was picked to design the cover of their 2022 diary.
The brief was wide open and of course, being me, I wanted to draw huge 3D figures and combine them with patterns.
Of the three options I put forward, the chosen design is a twist on my usual approach. Rather than decorate the face of the letters, I thought it might be fun to focus on their extruded sides. The patterns contains little images of the four seasons: snowdrops, strawberries, mushrooms and icicles.
The cover title is set in one of my fonts, Rig Sans.
